Kiwanis hosts car show Aug. 15 -  8/12/2010

Hooksett Kiwanis to Host 4th Annual Car Show

 

On Sunday August 15, Hooksett Kiwanis will host its 4th Annual Antique & Classic Car show at Donati Field. This event will run from 8:00AM – 2:00PM. This event has grown over the past three years from 75 to 115 to 127 cars last year. Additional growth is expected this year according to co-chairs Dale Hemeon and Carl Hebert. They expect over 150 registered cars this year. Classes will include Modal A’s, Model T’s, Street Rods, Muscle

Hooksett Kiwanis ges $25,000 trails grant -  7/8/2010

Hooksett Kiwanis was recently notified by the Trails Bureau of the NH Department of Resources and Economic Development (DRED) that it will be receiving a $25,000 grant to help upgrade the Head’s Pond Trail. This money, along with $15,000 of Kiwanis funds, will be used to vastly improve the 1.4 mile trail from across from Green’s Marine easterly to the Town Pond. The project will involve grading the existing surface to improve drainage, installation of culverts, adding four inches of ¾ man-pac

Sen. Boutin, Central principal talk to Kiwanis -  6/17/2010

State Senator David Boutin and Central High Principal John Rist shared the podium at the Hooksett Kiwanis meeting on May 5. Rist was present to share his pride of the Kiwanis Key Club at Central High School. The Key Club recently returned from the New England District Convention in Springfield Massachusetts with a number of honors and awards.  Approximately 1,200 members attended from 180 Key clubs throughout New England and Bermuda.

New to Kiwanis -  6/17/2010

Hooksett Kiwanis recently inducted six new members, bringing the club’s roster to 85. The new members include Ray Bonney, owner of October Third Trucking and his wife Linda, office manager at Garaventa USA. Joining the Bonney’s are Dan Pike, Emergency Management Director for the Town of Hooksett and his wife Patricia who is retired. Also joining Kiwanis are John and Teresa Dowd, owners of USA Subs on Hooksett Rd. John is a former mayor in Derry NH and currently serves on the Hooksett Economic

Kiwanis to host golf tournament -  6/10/2010

The Hooksett Kiwanis Foundation is pleased to announce its 14th Annual Golf Tournament to be held July 16th, 2010 at Candia Woods Country Club in Candia New Hampshire. Registration will begin at 7:00 AM,  with a shot gun start at 8:00 AM. All players must be checked in no later than 7:45 AM. This tournament is open to all players interested in playing. Refreshments will be served in the morning with a steak tips and chicken lunch served immediately after end of play.  The scramble

New to Kiwanis -  6/3/2010

Hooksett Kiwanis recently inducted two new members.  This brings the Club to 80 members strong, an all-time high.

 

Debra Campbell is a lifelong resident of NH and moved to Hooksett in 1999.  She has a Bachelors Degree in Education from Notre Dame College. Debra taught for a few years before joining GE Aviation in Hooksett, where she currently serves as Human Resources Manager.   She has also been an active member of GE Elfun, now called GE Volunteers, and personally

Hooksett Eagle Scouts Honored by Kiwanis -  6/3/2010

Three young men who earned Eagle Scout status during the past year were honored by Hooksett Kiwanis at its meeting on May 19. All received recognition certificates and a limited edition 2010 US Silver Dollar Coin to mark their achievements. The Silver Dollar commemorates the 100th anniversary of Scouting. The fabric of a community is knitted together by many dedicated and caring people. Community organizations provide a unique forum for residents of a community to come and work together to undertake meaningful projects that benefit the community.

Head's Pnd Trail cleared of fallen trees -  3/25/2010

More than a dozen Hooksett Kiwanis members, some accompanied by family  showed up at the trailhead on Saturday, March 6th to clear the Head's Pond Trail. In excess of 15 blockages caused by fallen trees from the worst windstorm to hit our area in many years had rendered the trail impassable.  15 large trees along with many smaller ones were blown over in the great storm of 2010.  Special thanks to Todd Rainier who along with Mike Horne, Trails Chairperson, and the members who

Kiwanis honors leaders -  3/18/2010

Hooksett Kiwanis Inducts two new Corporate Members -  3/4/2010

 

The Kiwanis International Board recently approved a new form of “corporate” Kiwanis membership. With this option, an organization rather than an individual become a Kiwanis member. The organization periodically designates one of its employees as the contact person and may change this at anytime. Kelly Gets Fellowship -  2/11/2010

Hooksett resident and Central High School Key Club President Jayne Kelly was awarded a Hixson Fellowship at the Hooksett Kiwanis meeting on February 3, 2010. The Hixson Award is the highest award given by Kiwanis international. It is named after the first President of Kiwanis International and consists of a medal, shadow box, and special pin. Singing for Salvation & Builders Club helps out -  12/17/2009

The three clubs within the Hooksett Kiwanis Family teamed up on Saturday December 12 to ring bells for the Hooksett Branch of the Salvation Army. The northern entrance to the new Wal-Mart was staffed by Hooksett Kiwanis members. The southern entrance was staffed by members of the Kiwanis Key Club at Central High School, while members from the Kiwanis Builders Club at Cawley Middle School staffed the entrance to K-Mart. Miss New Hampshire speaks at Kiwanis Club -  12/10/2009

Miss NH 2009 Lindsey Graham from Sandown was the featured speaker at the Hooksett Kiwanis meeting on December 2.  She is a 22-year-old 2008 summa cum laude graduate of Fordham University (accomplished in only three years).  Lindsey's degree is a BA in Broadcast Journalism and Theater Performance. Kiwanians go back to school -  12/3/2009

At the Kiwanis meeting on November 4, a large group of Kiwanis members and guests got a taste of what is was like to be a student in Hooksett back in the mid 1800s.

Kathie Northrup, Chair of the Hooksett Heritage Commission and retired teacher Ruth Knowles covered the Preservation of Hooksett’s Head School and a also provided a glimpse of elementary education over 150 years ago.

GE Helps Food Pantry -  10/15/2009

The Hooksett Kiwanis Foundation Inc., sponsor of the Hooksett Community Food Pantry, is grateful for the donation of  $1335.00 presented to them on Thursday October 1, 2009 by employee volunteers of the GE Aviation facility in Hooksett.

Hooksett Community Food Pantry Becomes Part of Kiwanis -  10/1/2009

On September 2, 2009 the Hooksett Kiwanis Foundation membership unanimously voted to take on the Hooksett Community Food Pantry as a long term community service project.  This change resulted from several months of collaboration among Reverend David Richardson from the Congregational Church, Food Pantry Board members, Carol Granfield, Barbara Brennan, David & Doris Scarpetti and Hooksett Kiwanis. Key Club Advisor Todd Libby Receives Hixson Award -  7/2/2009

The Hixson Fellowship is the highest recognition award granted by Kiwanis to an individual. It is named for George F. Hixson, the first president of Kiwanis International. This award was bestowed by the Kiwanis Club of Hooksett to Central High teacher Todd Libby at the Annual Kiwanis Key Club recognition banquet.
