Volunteer NH is a statewide nonprofit organization that annually recognizes the spirit of volunteerism in NH by hosting the “Spirit of NH Awards”. This year’s celebration was held on November 7 at the Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord NH. Winners are selected by a select Volunteer NH committee from the nominations received. Three local individuals and organizations received very special awards.

Scouting for Food drive collects over 3,000 items - 11/22/2017

Each year the Scouting Community in Hooksett comes together for the annual Scouting for Food drive. After leaving tags at residences throughout Hooksett, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, along with adult volunteers canvass all of Hooksett picking up donated food.  Donated food is delivered to the Hooksett Community Food Pantry at the Hooksett Town offices, where it is sorted and placed on Pantry shelves by pantry volunteers. This year’s drive resulted in 3,568 food items that will be provided to Hooksett Families. The Hooksett Community Food pantry is sponsored by and is a community project of Hooksett Kiwanis. Todd Rainier recognized a number of members for their years of service and special efforts for strengthening Kiwanis within the Hooksett Community. Among these were Judy Barrett as Member of the Year, Susan Willey as Most Valuable Player, and Sid Baines for 25 years of membership in Kiwanis.  The highlight of the evening was installation of the new officers and board members by Lt. Hooksett Kiwanis Receives Several Awards

Hooksett Kiwanis was the recipient of several awards at the recent New England and Bermuda District Convention in Hyannis, Massachusetts. These included:

  • Adding more new members (16) than any club in New England. The Hooksett Kiwanis roster at 90 members is now at an all-time high.
  • Having the District’s best newsletter for large clubs.
  • Having the top/outstanding Lt. Governor (Judy Barrett).
  • Receiving the Rising Stars award for outstanding public relations and print media.

At the recent New England and Bermuda Kiwanis District convention, Judy Barrett from the Hooksett Kiwanis Club was awarded the coveted Outstanding Lt. Governor Award.

 In presenting the award, District Governor William Jenkins stated that “Judy was very involved from the start of her year as Lieutenant Governor, and even before it began. Kiwanis Members prep trail for Trail race

Hooksett Kiwanis members were busy on August 29 preparing the Head’s Pond Trail for the annual race on September 16. A dozen members picked up trash, dog waste, and other debris. Others repaired washed our areas, raked, and trimmed overgrowth from the sides of the trail.

We learned that Manchester Sand and Gravel had resurfaced the far end of the trail this year with a layer of packed stone dust. This was done in accordance with their agreement with the Town relating to their development project that is going north of Head’s Pond. On July 14, 2017 Hooksett Kiwanis Foundation hosted their 21st annual golf tournament. The tournament was held at Pembroke Pines Country Club in Pembroke, NH. Under the slight threat of rain, 94 golfers tee' d off at 8:30am and enjoyed a great day on the links helping to raise money to improve the lives of children within the Hooksett community. Multiple Kiwanis volunteers as well as friends from General Electric in Hooksett helped organize and support a very fun and successful event.
